Do You Have A Library Card? Since our Pius X library room is now a classroom, it is imperative that all students possess a library card from his/her area public library for school research purposes. Part of our academic strategic plan is aimed at improving our student’s research writing/research skills.

Many library resources and databases can be accessed from home through a public library’s website if one’s home computer is equipped with the internet and you have a library card. Students, you will need a library card from the public library in the school district where you live.  Get yourself a library card.

Pius X enrollment for 2009-2010 is approaching 250, up from 212. This explosion of interest in Pius X affirms that we are doing all the right things and it is paying off in more kids wanting to come here. Word is getting around that we are making great strides in our academic program and that we offer a safe, spiritually supportive environment that enables young people to be successful.

New for this year is a Learning Support Room where students who need one-on-one support can work to strengthen study skills and master the curriculum. We’ve also added a Study Skills elective for 7 graders to help them create a good foundation for academic achievementThe new Learning Support Room is located in the Athletics Trailer and the Athletic Office is now in the main school office. We’ve constructed a new classroom next to the cafeteria to accommodate a particularly large 7 gradeWe are introducing a new Health curriculum for our 10-12 graders. Now, all students will now have three days of Physical Education alternated with three days of Health. We’ve added another teacher to our SAP (Student Assistance Program) Team. Now four staff members have been specially trained to identify and support students with issues that pose a barrier to a student’s successOur Peer Tutoring program will again pair Honors students with those who need academic support. Available four days a week from 2:15 to 3 p.m., this tutoring program proved popular and effective. We will be starting a SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter here at Pius X to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, drug abuse, and other destructive decisions. We’ve been very busy here at Pius X this summer and we are geared up for another exciting, positive and forward-moving year of learning, friendship and spiritual development.—James Angeline, Principal
